The    Incounter

Taylor went up to the girl and tapped her on the shoulder.

She turned around with a grin. "Hi!" she said.

Taylor took a deep breath and looked her in the eyes. "Um, do you remember me?"

The girl looked thoughtful. I have never met this kid before in my life....But he's really cute. Suddenly something hit her, and her eyes widened. Oh gosh! I HAVE seen him before! That's-that's Taylor Hanson! He must have met Ashley! Oh gosh!

Taylor sighed. "Um, if you don't remember me, that's fine with me," he said with embarrassment.

"No! Wait! I remember you! Taylor, right?" she asked.

Taylor grinned. Yes! She does remember me! he thought. "Ashley, right?" he asked.

Dawn's smile disappeared. Okay, so he did meet my twin. "Um, its...Dawn." she said.

Taylor stepped back and looked her up and down, confused. "I thought your name was Ashley," he said.

Dawn shook her head. "Well, Ashley's my middle name," she said. At least that parts true. she thought. "Sometimes I go by that name," Thank God Ashley had cheerleading practice tonight!

Taylor nodded. "Ohhhhhh. I see. So..... Do you want to dance?" he asked shyly.

Dawn stared at him. "Um, okay, sure," she answered quickly.

Taylor took her hand and led her near the center of the floor. He turned to her, putting his arms around her and pulling her close as they began to sway to the music. Uh huh, I am in definite like, Taylor thought, looking in her blue eyes. She is hot.....

Dawn blushed and gingerly leaned her head on his shoulder. She felt his heart beat faster. This isn't right.... I should tell him about Ashley and me being twins.

Taylor chose that moment to lift her chin and gently kiss her lips. He stared at her, waiting for a reaction as the song ended.

Since she had said nothing, Taylor decided to ask her something. "Um, Dawn? Do you, like wanna go somewhere to eat sometime?" he said, holding her still, his face turning slightly pink.

Dawn looked thoughtful. She slowly nodded, as a weird feeling crept into her stomach. Should I tell Ashley? she asked herself. I don't know if its right or not...

Taylor looked relieved. "Okay, so how's tomorrow? Seven-thirty at Pizza Hut alright? I'll pick you up..." he brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes with his hand.

Dawn took in a deep breath. That worried Taylor. Suddenly something hit him that he didn't realize before. He dropped his arms from her waist. "Wait, you don't have a boyfriend, do you?" he asked.

She shook her head hard. "No! Of course not!" she replied. She smiled. "That sounds fine," Oh no....I'm telling Ashley...wait.She never brought him up...oh gosh now what? she thought.

Taylor smiled shyly. He leaned down and kissed her. "Well, do you want to dance still?" he asked.

"Sure," she replied, distracted. He seems nice. *Oh well I'll worry about it later. As for now... she gazed into Taylor's eyes.

"Okay! Ready! Jump, Ashley!" Kelley yelled across the community center gym in Tulsa. The cheerleaders were having their twice a week practice. Ashley blew a strand of hair off her eyes. She massaged her wrists as she got ready to do her tumbling run.

"Guys, take five!" Kelley shouted. She ran over to Ashley. "Hey, girl, what's up? Sorry about that, I had to talk to you."

Ashley grinned. "Yeah, I needed a break anyway. So not much here. My life sucks," she laughed.

Kelley punched her in the arm. "Yeah, yeah whatever Miss I-get-whatever-I-want. Anyway, there was a party tonight. Did you hear about it?" she asked.

Ashley nodded. "Yeah, Dawn told me. I wish it wasn't tonight so we could go."

Kelley shrugged. "Yeah, I know. But you know a party ain't a party without me!" she laughed. "Man, I wish I had a twin sister. I mean, you guys could fool guys..." she teased.

Ashley laughed. "But sometimes its not what its cracked up to be. Sometimes it goes over the edge."

Kelley rolled her eyes. "But you're still lucky! My little brother is a brat!"

"Yeah, well, Dawn is my little sister! I have a bratty sibling, too!" Ashley said.

"Oh well. You guys are still young. Maybe you should follow her a bit about guys. You know, you are kinda not as outgoing as her." Kelley said.

Ashley waved her hand dismissivly. "But I'm still kinda outgoing though. It doesn't really matter. I'm still the same person."

Kelley shrugged. "I'll leave that to you two. Anyway, we got to get back to practice. Okay, cheer formation!" she yelled.

Ashley got up and walked over to the center of the floor. What makes her think I'm not that outgoing? I'm just not as flirtuous as Dawn. she thought. I'm into guys....like Taylor, maybe. He's my type I guess. I'll think about it later. She followed the other girls to the mats.

It was later that night and Taylor had decided to walk Dawn to her house. They left the party, silently walking down the street. "Did you have fun tonight?" Taylor asked in a low voice. He glanced at Dawn.

"Yeah, it was pretty cool. It was one of the best parties I've been to in ages," she smiled. "That's partly because of you..." she whispered.

Taylor blushed. He reached out and took her hand.

She shivered. "Wow, its chilly out tonight." Dawn said.

Taylor gripped her hand tighter. "So, do you have cheerleading practice soon?" he asked.

Dawn's eyes widened. "Um, I'm not sure. You see, I'm in basketball too."

Taylor looked in her eyes. "Really? I play a little basketball."

Dawn nodded. "Yup. Sometimes my teammates call me Dawn Staley, you know the Olympic basketball player."

Taylor laughed. "Yeah, I get ya." They walked along a little bit and stopped in front of Dawn's house. Taylor stood face to face to her. "Well, here you go. I'll see you tomorrow," he whispered.

"Yeah," she replied. Taylor leaned down and kissed her, cupping her chin with his hands. Taylor let go and stood back. "See ya, Dawn."

"Bye, Taylor." She slowly walked inside as Taylor continued down the street. I have to tell him soon... And Ashley. she thought. She went upstairs and realized her family was asleep. She peeked into Ashley's room. I'll tell her tomorrow. She walked to her own room and got ready for bed. She pulled down her covers and fell fast asleep.
